LITTLE ROCK — The board of commissioners of Central Arkansas Water (CAW) voted unanimously on Tuesday, February 4, 2019, to select Jay Barth, PhD the Director of the Odyssey Program at Hendrix College, to fill a vacancy on the board.
The selection is now subject to confirmation by the Little Rock Board of Directors and North Little Rock City Council.
“The board is very appreciative of all of the candidates who applied,” stated Carmen Smith, CAW Board Chair. “We had interviews with two great finalists, all of whom brought unique backgrounds and areas of expertise to the process. We feel that we selected the right candidate to fulfill the needs of the board and the community charge that we have.”
The CAW governing board has seven members who serve seven-year terms. In accordance with Ark. Code Ann. § 25-20-301, the board must consist of four residents of Little Rock and three residents of North Little Rock. Barth will complete the remaining portion of a seven year term of service for a Little Rock representative effective July 11, 2019, with the term on ending June 30, 2025.
During the special called meeting, the board also interviewed finalist candidate Carolyn Shearman. Eight Little Rock residents originally submitted letters of interest and résumés by the application deadline of December 28, 2018.
