LITTLE ROCK — The board of commissioners of Central Arkansas Water (CAW) voted unanimously on Thursday, February 15, 2018, to appoint James R. McKenzie, the former executive director at Metroplan, to fill a vacancy on the board.
The appointment is now subject to confirmation by the Little Rock Board of Directors and North Little Rock City Council.
“The board is very appreciative of all of the candidates who applied,” stated Jay Hartman, CAW Board Chair. “We had interviews with three great finalists, all of whom brought unique backgrounds and areas of expertise to the process. We feel that we selected the right candidate to fulfill the needs of the board and the community charge that we have.”
The CAW governing board has seven members who serve seven-year terms. In accordance with Ark. Code Ann. § 25-20-301, the board must consist of four residents of Little Rock and three residents of North Little Rock. McKenzie will complete the remaining portion of a seven year term of service for a Little Rock representative, ending June 30, 2020.
During a special called meeting on January 31, 2018, the board also interviewed two other finalist candidates, Stuart S. Mackey and Gregg Patterson. Nine Little Rock residents originally submitted letters of interest and résumés by the application deadline of December 28, 2017.
