CAW Hosts 7th Annual Lake Sweep at Lake Maumelle and Waste Drop-Off

LITTLE ROCK – Central Arkansas Water (CAW) will host its 7th Annual Lake Sweep at Lake Maumelle on Saturday, October 17, from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The event will involve litter clean up as well as a drive-through, waste drop-off location for watershed residents. CAW invites the Central Arkansas community to join in this project to “spruce up” the area around Lake Maumelle.

“Lake Sweep provides the Central Arkansas community with a hands-on opportunity to learn about and help protect its drinking water supply,” said Raven Lawson, CAW’s Watershed Protection Manager. Lake Maumelle is the primary water source that provides drinking water for 400,000 people throughout the region.

Lawson noted a Community Waste Drop-Off will be added to the event this year.  A drive-through, waste drop-off location will allow residents to safely and easily dispose of electronic-waste, tires, recycling, and other waste.  The location will be unable to accept televisions or glass.

Lake Sweep and the Waste Drop-Off are continuations of CAW’s commitment to natural resource preservation and protection in the Lake Maumelle Watershed.

Those interested in helping with Lake Sweep should plan to meet at Jolly Roger’s Marina on Arkansas Highway 10 (11800 Maumelle Harbor Rd) at 8:30 am on Saturday, October 17.  Volunteers will then head out in teams to various public-use areas around the lake. At noon, lunch will be provided to those who help with the clean up.

The Community Waste Drop-Off will be provided at the Sleepy Hollow Boat Launch, west of the lake on Hwy. 10 from 8:30 – noon on Saturday, October 17.
