Central Arkansas Water (CAW) has notified area residents of a potential prescribed burn occurring during February, March, or April in the Lake Maumelle Watershed, whenever weather and site conditions permit.
CAW has partnered with The Nature Conservancy and other state and local partners to complete prescribed burns around Lake Maumelle area in a safe and effective way. CAW’s next scheduled burn will occur on either a 100 acre tract or 190 acre tract along the south shore of Lake Maumelle in the area of Jolly Rogers Marina. The activity is expected to be completed in one day for each tract.
All landowners within 3 miles have been informed of the prescribed burn by letter. In addition, CAW will issue a press release and online announcements when notified that the prescribed burn is scheduled. The burn will occur under specific weather conditions intended to minimize smoke and increase dispersion, but smoke will still be visible in the area.
Prescribed burns improve public safety by minimizing the risk of destructive wildfires and enhancing forest resiliency, improve water quality because of enhanced filtration resulting from better growing conditions on the forest floor, and improve wildlife habitat and recreation opportunities.
